Programme of Talks, Walks & Visits

The majority of our Meetings are held in the Ashwick & Oakhill Village Hall on the third Wednesday in the month and start at 7.30 pm. Light refreshments are provided afterwards.

Walks and visits usually occur in the summer months and may start a little earlier. Full details of when and where to meet are published nearer to the event.

January 16th  A History of Oakhill Brewery    by Clare Blackmore

February 20th   Mendip Hills through the Time Tunnel – development of a landscape and the human impact that created it    by Les Davies  

March 20th    18th Century Bath – The Season!   by Judi Wray-Bliss 

April 17th    Quiz & Social Evening – including Wine & Nibbles & incorporating the AGM

May 15th    History on the Streets – a life of making murals by Philippa Threlfall

June 19th    Visit & Walk at Cranmore Tower  with  refreshments, and possibly a poetry reading, etc

July 17th   Visit to St Cuthberts Church, Wells     Introduced by Andrew Fawcett

September 18th   Jutland 1916 – Clash of the Dreadnoughts  by Professor Aidan Dodson

October 16th    The Horns and Strings of the Middle Ages    by Jonathan Weeks

November 20th  “Gert, Daisy & Dollymop entertain” The Victorian below-stairs staff at the Swan Hotel reflect on life, work and the world, and in their wisdom, ponder the future through the leaves in their teacups!  by Clare Blackmore & friends

December 19th   Christmas Event – Skittles & Hot Buffet at the Poachers Pocket, Chelynch BA4 4PY – Note this starts at 7pm on Thursday, Dec. 19th.
